“Speed” has always been a key source of inspiration for Bell & Ross. Since its inception, the watchmaking brand has consistently demonstrated its enthusiasm for cutting-edge technology. It is precisely because of these factors that the brand continues to transcend and develop highly complex mechanical devices for its timepieces. Undoubtedly, Bell & Ross has shown great interest in all high-speed racing cars.
Work with Revolution and The Rake to Create a New BELLY TANKER
Following the success of the BELLY TANKER series launched in 2017, the designers of Bell & Ross did not stop, however, they began to accelerate the research and production of more sophisticated products. For example, this time together with the international fashion trends “Revolution” and “The Rake” to create a new BELLY TANKER series Dusty and EI Mirage wristwatches, and introduced a new stable bronze material for the first time, which is also the first time to use in the product.
For fashion trendsetters, these two co-branded watches are even more extraordinary. Just like its chronograph concept of the ultimate tropical dial style, it is a surprise to the fans. “The Rake” even on its official website, has detailed planning for the clothing of these two watches, such as brown flannel, tweed, plaid and corduroy, even with evening dresses can show a different sense of elegance and fashion.
Dusty is named after the dry lake that American madman Bill Burke often plays, Dusty. Burke built the world’s first Belly Tanker high-speed car, although it has not been officially released, with its outstanding appearance and design, this streamlined chariot has a place in the great American aviation history of the 1940s and 1950s. Inspired by these later versions of the Belly Tanker high-speed car, Bell & Ross designed its own racing car and a chronograph watches.
Inspired by forty or fifty years of military and aerospace regulations, this vintage-inspired sporting timepiece features an ultra-thin case, recessed counter, countdown and vintage lettering. This is the exclusive collaboration between Bell & Ross and The Rake. The caramel-colored dial and the black color of the second ring, as well as the milk chocolate color of the bezel create an excellent color contrast. This is also called the Dusty dial effect. For the design of Bell & Ross, “If there is a black dial chronograph, it is exposed to the sun in California every day, what will it become in 70 years?” The tan of the pleasant dusty dial is always alive. To bring out the Dusty dial, the designers chose a military-style brown strap with a vintage pin buckle.
EL MIRAGE BRONZE AGE
The EI Mirage was inspired by Burke’s bright yellow appearance with the legendary “Belly Tank” racing car built with the P51 Mustang fighter mailbox. This is a gold version of a giant cup with a tropical dial and a second scale ring. In order to reduce its manufacturing cost, it uses a stabilized bronze material, but still has a strong yellow-brown effect.
The designers of Bell & Ross are very satisfied with the use of this material. “The antique gold watch of the 1950s has a very special appearance. We believe that the use of stabilized bronze to achieve similar tones helps to strengthen the concept of the entire antique watch. This watch also combines a champagne faceplate with a tropical brown dial, the second scale and the bezel, making the finished product very charming.”
The EI Mirage also comes with a dark brown military-style strap, which is also the first strap in the watchmaking world to use a stabilized bronze pin buckle. It can be said that this is one of the best works of Bell & Ross.
